Wood broken on bye, Graves to dig in

It Conquered the World star Peter Graves (seen here demonstrating his unique throwing style) will helm the Yucca Flats Atomic Monsters against the San Francisco 49ers in place of the injured Edward D. Wood, Jr.

YUCCA FLATS (AP) — Just one day after Atomic Monsters starting quarterback Edward D. Wood, Jr. went down with a back injury, actor Peter Graves has signed a one-year deal and will start week 6 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Wood Injured his back yesterday when he was run over by his dog. "I was walking down the stairs and my dog came barreling down the stairs after me and clipped me, and I fell on my back. If that wasn't bad enough, the accident caused a run in my favorite pair of nylons!" Wood said. This was the second freak injury for clutzy Wood. In September, he tripped on a steep driveway at a friend's house and was knocked unconscious.

Enter: veteran actor Peter Graves. While growing up in Minnesota, Peter Graves excelled at sports and music (as a saxophonist), and by age 16 he was a radio announcer at WMIN in Minneapolis. After two years in the U.S. Air Force, he studied drama at the University of Minnesota and then headed to Hollywood. “They're getting a heck of a quarterback,” said Graves' agent G.W. Shark, “He's been ready to go, it was just a matter of dotting the i's and crossing the t's on his new contract.”

Graves' contract is a 1950s-era, one-year, $150 contract with no incentives. When asked about the details of his signing bonus, Graves replied, “They wanted me to accept extra money just for signing a contract. That just wouldn't be right. After all, I haven't earned anything yet.'” Graves' agent could not be reached for comment.
