The Giant Claw

I told my 5-year-old daughter that she could draw any face she wanted on a pumpkin and I would carve it for her. She debated on a cat before deciding on the Sinbad Cyclops! She makes a father so proud!

This Frankenstein light-up novelty was given to me by my buddy who's son had grown tired of it. Isn't it great? It's about 14 inches high and is dated 1993. I love the cutout plastic eyes glued into position below the lids and the blood on the forehead. However the combination of foam rubber and the light bulb inside convinces me I won't be leaving this on very often.

That year I was unclassifiable and totally original. Ok, not exactly. I did use one of those kits where you cut out the foam appliances that you painted and glued to your face. It reminded me of that one episode of The Twilight Zone.

Inspired by the Mars Attacks bubble gum card set, I drew this masterpiece in 1962. I did not go on to be an artist in real life. The sad tale of Bill's Mars Attacks cards: I was an avid baseball and bubble gum card collector as a kid and still have EVERY card I ever purchased EXCEPT one set...Mars Attacks. I received a BB gun for a surprise present and distinctly remember attaching my Mars Attacks cards to our fence and blasting the crap out of every card....seriously, I remember this vividly.  I'm crying right now and can't type any more.

Ya gotta love a 'Town-Eating Monster!' I live near what's left of Missouri Valley, Iowa. I took a snap of their town theater, sculpted a Harryhausen-inspired monster in polymer clay, and made a couple plastic models for this composite. Oh, the tank was real.  I hope you like it. Poor Mo. Valley.

Here is a sculpture I just finished. I will be adding some barbed wire later...I hope you enjoy it.

It must have been about 1962 and I was convinced that I was going to be either a paleontologist or a spaceman "when I grow up." My favorite Chiller Theater monster movies were spaceman movies like The Angry Red Planet, IT!, Forbidden Planet and the like.

I needed to make a costume for our Cub Scout Circus and a spaceman was the obvious choice. My Dad and I made the helmet out of paper mache over a balloon and then he helped me paint everything with aluminum paint. I had to march in a parade with this monstrosity and damn near died of heatstroke!
